Fiqh of Zakat Ul-Fitr PDF Print E-mail
Fiqh: Islamic Jurisprudence - Zakah

From Sayyid Saabiq’s Fiqh us-Sunnah
With commentary by Muhammad Naasir ad-Deen al-Albaanee from Tamaam ul-Minnah fit-Ta‘leeq ‘alaa Fiqh as-Sunnah [1]

Introduction

Zakaat ul-fitr is a type of sadaqah which must be paid by every Muslim, young and old, male and female, free and slave, at the end of the month of fasting (Ramadhaan).

Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim relate from Ibn ‘Umar that he said, “The Prophet ( صلى الله عليه وسلم ) enjoined the payment of one saa‘ [2] of dates or one saa‘ of barley as zakaat ul-fitr on every Muslim, young and old, male and female, free and slave.”

The Purpose of Zakaat ul-Fitr

Zakaat ul-fitr was made obligatory in the month of Sha‘baan during the second year after Hijrah. Its purpose is to purify one who fasts from any indecent act or speech and to help the poor and needy. This view is based upon the hadeeth reported by Abu Daawood, Ibn Maajah, and ad-Daraqutnee from Ibn ‘Abbaas;

“The Messenger of Allaah ( صلى الله عليه وسلم ) enjoined zakaat ul-fitr on the one who fasts to shield one’s self from any indecent act or speech and to provide food for the needy.”

It is accepted as zakaat ul-fitr for the person who pays it before the ‘eed prayer, and it in counts only as sadaqah for the one who pays it after the prayer.

flood

As Muslims around the world continue observing the daylong Ramadan fasts, many of Pakistan’s flood victims are starving long into the night.

"Ramadan or no Ramadan, we are already dying of hunger," a 50-year-old flood victim told the Associated Press. "We are fasting forcibly, and mourning our losses."

But the victims aren’t just hungry. They are thirsty, cold, sick, and scared.

The scale of Pakistan's floods is worse than the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2005 Pakistan earthquake and the 2010 Haiti earthquake combined.

Shortages of food, water, clothing, shelter, and supplies are making it difficult for the victims.

Islamic Relief USA has increased its original $1 million appeal to $4 million in the wake of the increased flooding and suffering. Your support is desperately needed to help the people of Pakistan. Donate today.

Salah Ad-Din Al-Ayyubi PDF Print E-mail

Battle of Hattin and the Conquest of Jerusalem

"After this infamous attack on the caravan, Salah Ad-Din mustered his armies and broke them into contingents to deliver an exemplary punishment to the Franks, one and all, and regain the holy city of Jerusalem, which was the place fron which the Prophet (SAW) ascended to the seven heavens and the birthplace of the prophets.

During that time, the ruler of Kerak prepared an army to attack the Muslims returning from Hajj. Salah Ad-Din called the people for jihad to protect the pilgrims. He camped at Qasr As-Salama, near Busra, and remained till the pilgrims had come in peace and safety. The pilgrims then prayed Allah to grant victory to Salah Ad-Din and overcome his enemies who were always violating their covenants and breaking treaties. Fanaticism and resentment blinded the Franks, and enmity and resentment hardened their hearts. They would taste of the same cup...."
